In Bruges

Bruge was the last stop on my recent road trip through Europe. The historic city in Brussels not only lived up to its expectations of amazing chocolate and waffles of all shapes and sizes - and I mean ALL SHAPES AND SIZES - but it was also one of the most beautiful and enchanting cities I’ve been to. Referred to as the “Venice of the North”, with its medieval structures and canal-based routes, it is as romantic as it is eerie. Walking through the cobble streets in the evening, you feels as if you're in a different century, where ornate houses, Gothic churches, and shadows sweep around every corner.

Staying at the De Vijf Zuilen, a privately owned bed and breakfast house, I found myself in a rococo style chamber in which I couldn't resist having a little narcissistic fun. The owner of the house is a lovely lady, with great hospitality, and might I say with top notch breakfast skills. If you’re ever in Bruge and want the full authentic experience then don’t miss out on this place and stay in the chamber “Magestique”!

Another thing that I loved about Bruge is that on every street, nook and cranny, there are cute little tea rooms. Always packed, it seems as if the inhabitants of the town find their main activity in tea parties. Hence obviously sparking great admiration from a coffee/tea break enthusiast like myself. TEA TIME!

Spending lots of time at Uni and being part of Kingston University's student magazine (Mouth) I've been noticing lots of people with great stylistic sense. Killing two birds with one stone, since these photos are used for our Mouth Style section, I'm posting some of the great fashionable endeavors here. Also because I've had no time to update as I've been extremely busy, if you consider watching reruns of Freaks and Geeks as an important past time.

This weekend I warped back in time to the fabulous ROARING 20's! In spirit of one of my favorite decades (the other being the 70's which I'm convinced I used to live in "This is the Dawning of the Age of Aquarius" hence all things enlightening;)) but off topic...

I've always wanted to do a 20's style party. I love everything starting from fashion, music, the spirit, the nonchalant elegance and the significant change that the time brought with it. Inspired before by such things as the Great Gatsby and recently the wonderful movie Midnight in Paris, I thought Halloween is the perfect time to unleash the flapper girl in side me. And definitely not the last time.

I put my outfit together by adding together pieces from various places. Things I actually loved and could wear again on different occasions. The head band from Her Curious Nature, was particularly a must have. Hand crafted with Parisian lace, velvet and gems - so pretty I couldn't put it down. The shoes however are my all time favorites, Agent Provocateur's "Irma" and honorable veterans of my closet. I've had them for a while now and savor them as one of my dearest possessions. Unfortunately after my 1920's ventures, they've taken yet another toll of a long, uninhibited night. C'est la Vie! All good things must come to an end...? Do they? No, I don't really believe that :)

Tea and Crumpets at Fortnum & Mason

This weekend I discovered a magical place called Fortnum & Mason. If I was a girl growing up in a Charles Dickens novel, I would wish to one day be able to go in the store and buy all the goodies that my little heart desired, while staring solemnly through the window at all the other little girls in their cute pea coats with their mommies, picking out gum drops and having afternoon tea with strawberry jam. Lucky for me I live in a time where I can exploit my skills for more than 5 pence a day. But because that little girl does live inside an overgrown child's body resembling a possibly mature young lady, I decided to feed her. A lot. So that she shuts up and can't breathe anymore.

Staying in the center this weekend, I shacked up at the wonderful Sofitel St. James, which is an wonderful hotel to relax at if staying in London. With a great location and lively downstairs restaurant/lounges, it also has beautiful views and luxurious decor.

Moving on from my lovely afternoon, the evening consisted of a totally different vibe at Trailer Happiness a cool tiki bar with a retro/vintage feel. It was totally awesome and happening, and made me feel as if I was in a different time and place. Maybe somewhere in the 60's in the South Pacific? Or maybe just a really cool bar in Notting Hill ;)

Have you ever thought what you’d become if you got to put on the “The Mask”? Shopping in London I realized what I would do. Well rob a bank first of course and then hit up Harrods, Bond street, and then Regent. All of this with breaks at Pret A Manger. My favorite place to snack at.I feel like Joey from friends every time I go there, cause they have THE BEST SANDWICHES. And coffee, and lemon loafs, and salads…sigh. It's almost on every corner so as soon as I miss it I see another one. Starbucks what? In any case I did all of the above sans the supernatural powers and bank robbing. Instead of the mask I wore a huge grin. Nevertheless it didn't go without moments of self reflections which of course followed by disgust at the euphoria that I was experiencing for the love of things and then once again silenced by the sight of... a new bright green sweater?! “Sigh I wish I was just as excited about things that actually count…wait is that GREEN MOHAIR THAT WILL TOTALLY COMPLIMENT MY EYES??? …..Oh the splendor! MUST HAVE. MUST HAVE. MUST HAVE”. 

On the last floor of Topshop I found the garden of Eden. It was filled with different local designers mostly from the UK and Europe such as Golide, Minkie, and CI CI.

Of course saving the world should come first. Prioritize Nina….priorotize…But what's better than doing so in a really cute tweed jacket and leather pants? Angelina Jolie does it all the time...example taken.

I've been looking for this type of peter pan collard dress and actually stumbled upon a lot since it's such a trend right now - of course since I said it previously and then Marc Jacobs went and like ran with it for his fantasy hotel Fall/Winter 2011 collection for Louis Vuitton :) My dress actually looked more like the school uniforms from the Soviet era but it still sealed the deal.

At Home House
 Home House is a private members club that is set in a Georgian style town house with numerous beautiful rooms, bars and vibes. It includes a hotel, restaurant and private areas. The interior design is left from the 18th century, which initially was built for the Countess Elizabeth of Home. Now it's UK's best club, which goes from aristocratic atmosphere of the day to table dancing at night, maybe just like the Countess would have it back in her day :)

A Farewell in Style

My days in Vancouver came to a sweet end. Even though I was hardly ever there and when I was- strictly on autopilot, I think I've finally done it for good this time. I will save my words of sentiment and just leave it at that. Adieu! A new leaf is being turned, a new chapter has begun, new tales woven, a new decade of debauchery, self realizations, places to be, people to meet and of course consequently estrange. You get the jist.With London being my destination, hopefully this new age will be rung in with stylish Brit trench coats, messy bed head hair, and cute little tea parties spiked with rum.

Of course there ain't no farewell without a party. And there's no party without friends. Better yet ones that you've grown up with and share your infantile sense of humor :) Nevertheless some of us have stepped into the adult world, so a fun work party was in store for the evening by Cassels Brock/Copper Mountain. Hence the gold mining theme.

Back to School / Boho Chic

I recently collabed with a bunch of cool young peeps to create this super fun shoot. All the photography is by Ron Filio and make up by Joyce Yeh.

We tried to create a romantic/ Boho feel for the whole shoot which I think worked really well!

First outfit was styled by me and probably the most primitive. But I wanted to create a back to school/university look with an air of promiscuity. That's where the rails come in for the "I'm skipping class look", to go read some...an autobiographical novel the Tiger? Mind you, the book was borrowed from a nearby clerk at an auto shop, cause I realized I had no props to look like a rebel run away. I was also intending a cigarette, but I was scared my grandma was going to see this and disown me. Tough love...tough love. Okay enough rambling! More peeectures!

I've been looking through some fashion photos and decided to post up my favorite ones, for some style evoking ideas. Since lately my posts have been all about me, and even though I know we'd all love to keep it that way, I though that I should restrain myself from over self exposure. After all a good friend of mine recently has taught me: "All good things should be given in little amounts, and quickly", right after she rolled up the windows of our car from the gawking male specimen outside. I swore to abide by those rules, as I jotted down..."MEMO TO SELF - ALL GOOD THINGS...". hahaha juuuust joking, it was a mental memo - I'm not that nuts. I only use pen and paper to doodle stick men and my hit list...DUH.

Batumi: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Recently I went on vacation to one of my favorite places in the world, the city of Batumi. Despite the fact that most of my friends were working hard I managed to play dress-up throughout my whole trip there, attending different functions, events, and creating some fun of my own when there was none:)

Now that I have lots of time on my hands I'm creating my photo diary from my trip.

Last year around the same time I had taken some promotional photos for Batumi by LIG studio for inSide Georgia magazine. I realized I've never posted them on the blog so here they are.

This summer Batumi held the grand opening of the Radisson hotel which proved to be a fun party once everyone got up to the sky lounge and forgot their count of martinis.

We also had the pleasure of going to see Sting live at the Piazza in Batumi. Along with other performers who's names I cannot remember, the show was fantastiK! He opened with Desert Rose and I gotta tell you it was magical. And you know what else is magical. Sting's dancing moves. Those hips don't lie.

Tbilisi Art & Design with Alex Berdysheff

The world is truly serendipitous if one believes it to be. When I recently found my childhood ballet teacher Nino Keshelava on facebook she invited me to the opening of her husbands exhibition in Georgia's new art gallery "Hobby". It worked out strangely perfect, during that time I was set to just arrive in Tbilisi, and the gallery turned out to be on the same street where I was residing. It is wonderful to re-connect with someone after so many years, and even more so see them continue to flourish and create art.

 PS. As you can tell I turned my blog into a combination of culture, art, travel and fashion, because one can spawn the other, and fashion alone can be boring without the embrace of another :)

V for Valencia and Formula 1

Just recently I had the pleasure of visiting the beautiful city of Valencia on the coast of Spain, known for its beautiful architecture and history. The Westin in Valencia is a great place to stay. The rooms were wicked, and despite the surreal wall paper in the bedrooms, which made you feel like you were on the set of a Stanley Kubrick film, I really loved staying there.

The town was filled with pap and fans waiting for the pilots to come out of their hotels. When you do come out they get really excited, so I really enjoyed the first couple of seconds until they realize it's just you.

Horchata is the drink of Valencia. Traditionally known as orxata de xufa (horchata de chufa) is made from tigernuts, water, and sugar. Originally from Valencia, the idea of making horchata from tigernuts comes from the period of Muslim presence in Valencia (from the 8th to 13th century).

The Formula 1 Grand Prix was also taking place so I got to experience the exciting races, and the event itself which is a lot of fun with some dear friends.

Spanish culture prioritizes in family and leisure time, which I really admire. Work, shmork comes next. So they really don't forget to enjoy life. What I loved even more is that cafes, restaurants and streets were filled with people of all ages. Young couples, teenagers, dads with their kids, moms with more kids, while the older generation wasn't tucked away in retirement homes but sipping margaritas,chatting it up with friends and still holding hands. Maybe the future is bright after all :)

Versace for H&M

Versace is the next big designer set to collab with H&M this fall. Here's a sneak peak of the line which hits November 17th. Hopefully they're making enough to go around or it's going to be survival of the fittest in there. You see Darwin failed to foresee the phenomenon exemplified by the woman species being let loose in a highly desirable consumerist culture.  In other words me using my elbows and claws to get to the last size of the jacket displayed below.
Natural selection right there. If so it be, I take no responsibility of my actions and will go under the excuse of "irresistible impulse".

The collection, as stated by Donatella, will include studded leather, colorful prints for women, sharp tailoring and  tuxedos for men, as well as limited pieces for home, including cushions  and bedding— a first for an H&M designer collaboration.

Festival De Cannes 2011

Nonchalant was in Cannes this weekend! -When you start talking in third person about your blog, others may think you've A.) have finally gotten big B.)have had additional contributors join the blog and have become a team, and if neither is the case then C.)have officially lost it. Lucky for me it's E.)have accustomed to speaking in third person in hopes of A,B and like all true artists consequently C.

 
 
The trip was truly amazing, and despite being short lived due to my extra curriculum responsibilities such as University - to quote unquote my prof "Are you showing up to class next week? your group would love to hear from you.."(after bragging about all my writing experience and skills I've been made editor of my group magazine project). Now to act the part. Shiza! 
Considering I flew all the way across the world, 14 hours there and back with lay-overs in Germany, I think it's fair to say that I deserve some kind of accreditation for the 3 days spent in the south of France, without "completely" falling asleep in the movie theater. Dosing off doesn't count. Trying to look glamorous was also a challenge. Come 7pm and I wanted my night bottle and pj's, but had to get ready and put my face on. Falling asleep on wet hair is not fun, gotta tell you. For what I ended up looking like at the end of the day, it wasn't too bad.  
Once you enter the theater you can watch the rest of the people coming in from the red carper. The stars of the movie come in last and finally the film starts. (Applause Jodie Foster's - Beaver in which she and Mel Gibson starred.)

Cannes was very beautiful, and it was everything I thought it would be. Beautiful people, lavish scenery, and celebrities left and right. It was like a Hollywood movie set threw up in there. My mommy taught me its impolite to stare, therefore I kept it to a bare minimum. In all honesty I just wanted to see whether they're really all short like leprechauns. In my disappointment, they were regular sized people. For the most part.

Taking pictures at the festival is kind of bad etiquette and is considered lame, so as to pretend you do the red carpet every day you have to try not to be a shutter bug (hence the camera Nazi glaring this way). Nevertheless we succeeded in a couple outtakes. Plus there's a million other photographers that will end up posting it on the internet or for money. But thank you very much I will keep my shekels.

Some of the wonderful places that were introduced to me included Restaurant L'Oasis. A hidden little gem, in the middle of the most beautiful garden. You feel as if you've stepped into a dream. And the food is honestly magic.
  
Another beautiful place that we checked out was the iconic and exclusive Hotel Du Cap. Positioned in the southern-most tip of the Cap d’Antibes, it has gone through a 4 year refurbishment. 45million Euro's later, it has opened it's doors once again to its guests and members. Hotel Du Cap is known for hosting an array of VIP's, grand events and fashion shows such as Chanel resort line and etc etc. Needless to say further it's the 
creme de la creme.

Recently I was thinking how I didn't want my blog to represent only fashion, because as I have stated before it means more to me than the material culture. It's not for the love of brands, trends, or pretty things but for individuality, art, beauty, and the story that clothing brings with itself. The flapper skirt's of the roaring 20's was revolutionary for women, while grunge shoes were actually popular among the labor force such as the steel and factory workers, later coveted by punks and skin heads. To be a slave to fashion is a terrible thing, but to make it your bitch is another. That's right. So the deal is off devil, I want my soul back for the pink Dior cannage bag. What you already got it? and it's nice and shiny? ....GIVE IT! Oh you were just testing how low I'd go?...haha I was just joking too... :I

The school bag trend epitomizes "urban chic" and is the IT bag for fashionistas everywhere. Here's some of the hottest satchels and also my favorite picks.

Alexa Mulberry bag, named after the Brit style icon Alexa Chung herself, comes in an array of colors including tan, black and red among a few. I'd def stick with the classic tones though for this satchel, because it's all about looking old and vintage

Her style reminds me so much of my own, so hence the love hate relationship I've formed in my mind...Let bygones be bygones I suppose.

Referred to as the "anti-IT bag" its definitely not serving its purpose. Except for the financial downfalls on every one's accounts. Here's a quote from the assistant editor at Fabsugar "It's unreal how badly I want my own PS1. I see them and weep!". I see them and WEEP. You'd think that was a 10 year old talking about a Play Station, but nope we're full grown women. On that note... I feel you sista!!

It's ok as I slave away I dream of you baby and it makes it all that much easier... -That's the late night talks that girl's have with their bags. True story.

I can't wait to wear one with like a round collar shirt or dress (I'm obsessed with them right now) and be all Parisian about it (which comes naturally).

Apparently though the round collar is called a vintage Peter Pan, sooooo like that says a lot. My future psychiatrist would reference this to a phobia of growing up, hence the school bag post, and finding neverland, hence my Johnny Depp obsession. It's aaall coming together now.

 The traditional folk look is from Eastern European national clothing ie, the Russian floral shawls as well as the slightly different Spanish style Flamenco dress. The piano shawl itself originally dates back to the Victorian age. When mixed up with modern edgy pieces it's absolutely perfect :)Tie it around your waste a la Jlo (Ain't it Funny video) and you're one hot tamale!

I ADORE Dolce's Fall/Winter 2012 show. Maybe cause I just recently talked about stars in my previous post a little while back and now I can boast about my amazing and almost telepathic fashion sense? Or because I can boast about my amazing and almost telepathic fashion sense? Either or I think the collection is so much fun in an almost tacky way which totally works! Bring on the glitter, lace, print, suspenders, tuxedo shirts and chiffon :)

The masculine and feminine mix of the styles adds on to the playfulness of the whole collection, with ultra masculine brogue shoes paired with lustrous dresses, while oversized tailored jackets are adorning Dolce and Gabbana's signature form fitting dresses. Bum bags and cute little iPhone holders are the new thing with fur and sequence adding to the glitz. Accessories are total must haves with huge stars and notes for earrings and piano keys for handbags. Reminds you of something? How would Mugatu feel about this?

The whole collection is supposed to have a youthful feel while looking cool and daring. With what seems to be a combination of the 80's with 1930-40's "zoot suit" fashion the trend is all about fun and playfulness.

Personally it reminds me of several things which is why I probably love the collection so much. The Mask, 200 Cigarettes and my first barbie - with the transition of feminine to masculine included once the hair was chopped off and the shoes all chewed up and thrown in the fire place to cover up evidence...

70's style: Wide Brimmed Hats

 I  finally got my hands on a wide brimmed floppy hat that's been  technically in for a wHile but with the 70's in full force I'm going to  be the coolest cat on the block and EVERYONE WILL TOTALLY LOVE ME AND  SCREAM MY NAME!...:I Don't ever let me do that again.

Don't mind the mean mug, mobile phones do that :(

Not gonna lie I feel like D'Artagnan when wearing it, which is only one of the perks. Others include looking fashionable, hiding your face from the sun, hiding your face from pedestrians, hiding your face from ex boyfriends, hiding your face from anyone out last night in the same vicinity as you. Pair with some big shades and flares à la Alessandra and you're looking far out!

If you wanna stick with skinnies that's coo, but I suggest jumping on the bell bottom band wagon as soon as you can. You can take baby steps and do flare first...eassyy does it.

Sienna Miller, the father of boho chic, and other members such as Kate Moss have been rocking these hats since waif was still considered "a living creature removed, by hardship, loss or other helpless circumstance, from his or her original surroundings" aka "homeless". Definitely not a fashion statement. Thus photo tribute.

The 'izz'- Pig latin. Added to words ie. bitchizz, r"izz"ide= ride(car) sm"izz"oke= smoke "izz" and so on (somehow made it into the 21st century)

Awesome Possome - very cool 

Bogart - to hold on to a joint too long without passing it. The origin comes from the actor, Humphrey Bogart, who had an iconic style of performing an entire scene with a cigarette dangling from his lower lip for an extraordinarily long time.

NYC: The Art of Seduction

So considering the below freezing temperature and possibilities of snow storms we ventured out to NY for my birthday. Every time you go its a different experience, this is my fourth time in NYC and it was like no other. I found new interesting places to go, new things to rock and of course new ventures to climb. To those who know what I'm talking about it's like the Art of Seduction only Mark Antony is the door man.

With the help of some friends Bobbi, Helmut, Burberry and the god of mischief himself I'll spill all the secrets of casting spells :) (WARNING: there's no love in seduction, and often it might backfire on you).

I'll start with my new favorite face necessities. The amazing make up extraordinaire Jesse at MAC on 5th ave introduced me to "Lady Danger" lipstick which I wore on my birthday. Much brighter than "Ruby Woo" with a trendier spin on red. If you dare check it out. And go to him for your make up, he does an amazing job. 

Nevertheless I'm more of a au naturel girl and fell in love with Bobbi Brown's "Pale Mauve" for the lips.

For the eyes I kept on mastering the cat eye, credits to Brigitte Bardot and found the perfect liquid-pen liner "Penultimate Eye liner" from MAC in Carbon Black. 

For a fake tan that's not aging Clinique self tanner "deep/med" is awesome. And for a rejuvenating facial try Bliss "Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask". That, the sauna and lots of H2O kept me looking alive while gallivanting on my trip.

With shopping in New York it's a piece of cake. Anything and everything you want. My favorite buy were my new pair of Frye boots which actually look worn. The more you break them in the better ;)

Now enough with consumerism and onto the better things in life like food. My favorite place of discovery was Cipriani's in Soho, credits to my gf Netty. Amazing brunch and even more interesting dinner with lots of beautiful people who stare at each other wishing the other would choke on their food. Simply amazing. I literally ate lemon meringue cake just to make this model turn red, I didn't want desert but I did it anyways out of the sake of good old natured frivolity. In my defense we were both doing the Peter Griffin chicken fight in our head.

Next on the list of course is Pastis in Meatpacking, which you can't miss if you're in NY. Try the amazing onion soup :)

Night out on the town - freezing cold

My favorite place to go out this time was The Box. An avant-garde club with crazy circus freak shows in a small theater type venue. Just what you need to soak in when you start feeling bored of pretentious clubs that lack men balancing bowling balls on their heads.

Of course if you're looking for good ol' normal fun with fist pumping to great music Avenue on Monday night was it. Apparently New Yorkers don't go out on the weekend, it's too cliche, plus all the bridge and tunnel people from Jersey Shore venture in and who wants that. Nothing like a day at the office after an all nighter I suppose...Oh the simple things in life.

P.S. Stay at the Gansevoort Park ave if you go, so far it's my favorite and in the summer their roof top pool will be ready for action. (Don't stay in meatpacking the rooms are the size of match boxes and you're supposed to accept it just cause the elevator is cool...that's right Standard! - but do go there for a drink ;)

Tom Ford Spring S/S 11

Tom Ford has returned with a tremendous debut of his womenswear collection for Spring/Summer 2011. As seen previously with trend of the season, the designs are said to be Seventies inspired. Tom Ford is quoted saying "It’s about individuality, the seventies is what I love. Soft, touchable beauty is what I love.” There you go.

Listing an array of different muses including iconic models such as Amber Valleta and actress Julienne Moore, the event was super exclusive with a limited number of guests and Terry Richardson as the only photographer allowed on the scene.

The hush-hush suspense was obviously intentional. Tom Ford wanted us to all feel like the good old times again when everything was authentic and not so over exposed and regurgitated. The good ol' times have apparently hit him more than ever, looking tighter and younger, Ford himself has visited the time machine and has been rumored to have done some nip tucking himself. Either way he his collection highlighted his ongoing phenomenal success.

I`m so excited to get some bell bottoms cause I haven`t worn them since I was 12 and that`s a really big pity, `cause now I can actually get ones long enough, from which I don`t grow out of the next day. In any case I still rocked them :/

You can find 70's looks everywhere. Mark & Spencer have their new line with maxi dress and knits for the season.

For some inspiration watch a couple episodes of That 70`s Show or listen to some Led Zeppelin! Movies such as the Royal Tenenbaums and Almost Famous will also get you into the feel. Icons such as Jane Birkin and Mick Jagger are still copied to this day for their trend setting styles, but I think they need a separate post for themselves :)

The retro-chic is seen everywhere from Marc Jacobs to Vutton's glam inspiration. The 70`s are timeless so if you have some vintage whip it out of the closet. "You need coolin', baby, I'm not foolin'!"

In the words of Ms. Courtney Love - "He hit so hard...I saw stars". Probably containing a different meaning in her lyrics, like heroin, that was exactly my reaction when reading the recent Brit Vogue. I totally loved their "StarDust" theme. Having recently bought a star print scarf for no apparent reason, I was happy to see that my taste for fashion was not just a part of my imagination, but a larger calling and duty that I must use to the benefit of man kind ;)) Whipping it out of the closet I re admired the starry night sky which it became when unfolded, now re inspired, I couldn't wait to take it out on the town again.

I was happy to see Kate Moss's former birthday outfit in the December issue, the Chanel star print jumpsuit, which I've been meaning to post but was a couple years dated. It was a love it or hate it thing at the time and I definitely loved it. Actually this jumpsuit is one of my favorite pieces of all time.

The Undercut

Ladies and gentlemen I present to you the Undercut. This hairstyle can most recently be seen sported by the handsome Michael Pitt from Boardwalk Empire, set in the "prohibition period" of the 1920's and 30's, and directed by Scorcese. Much more daring in women, the undercut was THE haircut of 2010 sported by the likes of Alice Dellal, Rihanna, and Cassie, and has already been on the scene for a while.

In men the style is still quite original, especially with the slicked back touch. The style itself is said to have originated during the Great Depression, and is also known as the bowl cut in men, which definitely does not sound as cool. It's actually exactly what it sounds like. Putting a bowl on your head and cutting around the edges, thus identifying the poor who couldn't afford going to the barber.

Nevertheless they were the great creators of this style which was in and out of fashion through out the century, emerging mostly in the 1970's-80's with the punk sub cultures. And when parted down the middle also known as the wedge, extremely popular in the 90's for teens. Now back in 2011, I'm foreseeing it to be the next big thing in guys. Sorry boys the high pony tails and the longer hair was hot, but if you were just doing that for style it's time to move on ;)

Pretty Pastels

Pastels are great for living up the season with soft airy colors of pink, blue and yellow. The snowy days of winter mix perfectly with the cotton candy colors, which clash with the brights and neons of summer. The creamy, soft hues are almost soothing to the eye, with pampering mixtures of florals and delicate lights.

Mixing them up can bring lots of creativity and playfulness for the winter season which can seem so often bland. When choosing nail color follow the trends of the likes of Rihanna and go for an Alice in Wonderland blue.

As well as pinks, greens, and yellows!

The powdery blue nails are reminiscent of Chanel resort 2010 which came back this time around for 2011.

Christian Dior's cruise 2011 did the trick with the 50's style dolls and the French "je ne sais quois". Love Love Love :)))

To avoid looking as if an Easter bunny threw up on you, or like a princess - which I do not see why you would unless you aren't an a overgrown adolescent like myself.. Then go for more sophisticated looks such as Wes Gordon's Spring 2011 ready to wear line. Wes is said to be the next big thing in women's clothing. Well what do you know..

Pastel hair has also been ze super stylish lately, with cotton candy colors seen on both blonds and brunettes.

Swan Lake: Ballerina Trends

I've been recently very inspired with the Swan Lake theme. It's been my favorite ballet since I was a little girl, and would always hold performances for my general crowd at home which consisted of my parents, sis and all the stuffed animals that gathered that day.
There's little me in Moscow in my ballet school improvising the Spanish dance from Swan Lake :)

Recently I downloaded the whole suite by Tchaikovsky, one of the best composers of the romantic era, and once again fell into his creative genius and spell bounding music. Based on this I was thinking everything Swan Lake for a couple days and even found an upcoming movie with Natalie Portman where she plays a ballerina in "Black Swan".

I adore the costume of the swans especially the headpieces and was thus inspired to find something similar that could be incorporated into real life. I went into the search of hair accessories which I thought fashionably stylish. I found lots of beautiful headpieces, almost tiara like and though they should be freely attributed everywhere! Why not be a little extravagant? :) This post is also dedicated to legendary Georgian ballerina Nina Ananiashvili, imaged in the photographs.

Vancouver Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011

Vancouver Fashion Week came to an end yesterday. The show lasting from Nov.2nd to the 7th featured Jacqueline Conoir, Laura Siegel, and Michel Tudor among the few. The show sparked new potential with lots of beautiful ladies and designs. My favorite had to be Carmina De Young and Sid Neigum. Carmina's outstanding hat, seen above, is one of the most beautiful pieces I've seen all year. Really astounding and feminine. Sid Neigum on the other hand was an all around best designer at VFW I think. The detail, the clothes, and the presentation was truly up to par with some of the best. And I especially enjoyed the hair :)) Here's some of his fierce designs:

I was disappointed not to see "House of Nyla". She used to be part of all the Vancouver Fashion weeks and truly amazing in her lavish and extravagant corsets and couture dresses. I was actually a part of Fashion Rocks Vancouver a few years back. You never realize what an inferior creature you actually are, until you see a video of yourself and compare to all the real models. It's kinda like Frodo and Gandalf, except Gandalf is extremely good looking with really high cheek bones. Go figure. Oh who am I kidding, I love myself...;P

Gareth Pugh 2010-2011 Film

Gareth Pugh, an English fashion designer living in Paris, has currently caught my wondering eye for his avant-garde short films and designs. The first for Fall/Winter 2010, featuring Brazilian model Raquel Zimmerman, seemed very odd at first, and I intently tried to understand its meaning. I found it completely bizarre and totally weird. Thus an A+. Although I don't think Gareth Pugh would appreciate me grading him on his art with a lame letter and a sticker, I think that his work is significantly original in contemporary outlooks and especially in daring new concepts on the runway. Plus Anna Wintour is a notable supporter of Pugh's designs, claiming he's "brilliant!", so who cares what we think ;) (Sorry I watched Devil wears Prada over and over again crying and laughing at all the scenes, "Miranda's opinion is the only one that counts," said Priestly!):S...ahem.. anyways..here's the films.

Gareth Pugh - S/S 2011 Film

The New Yorker did an article on Pugh's work recently, discussing whether "runway" shows are all that necessary now with the exhibition of designs through video/the almighty net. I think considering the film's accessibility it's great that everyone can be enlightened, however virtual is still not like the real thing and can't be compared to the real show. The show is an event, a climax to the creative vision and talent. Plus I don't think it's as exciting sitting front row and center on your couch at home. It's a tad different. Unless there's 3D glasses, if there's 3D glasses then I'd have to think about it...;)

A Tim Burton Halloween

In light of this spooky holiday I'm dedicating the post to Tim Burton. His dark yet enchanting vision is beyond the level of many stupid horror flicks, gracing a more artistic outlook on film making. Many of his works include Edward Scissor Hands, the Corpse Bride, Sleepy Hollow, Beetle Juice, and even the 1989 Batman (which I consider the best to this day), and the most current Alice In Wonderland, are one of the most memorable and original films of this century.

Often starring his brilliant wife Helen Bonham Carter and Johnyy Depp (above in a scene from Sweeney Todd), as well as a cast of eccentric and quirky characters, Tim Burton's movies are imaginative masterpieces. The costume in the movies is thus just as theatrical and eccentric as the works itself. In 2009 issue of Harper's Bazaar Tim Burton re-imagines his vision for an editorial in "anticipation of his retrospective at New York's Museum of Modern Art". His art and fashion can be seen as a creative Gothic spin on a Neo-Romantic look.

I would love to see Tim Burton depict one of the greatest novels of the 20th century and my favorite book "The Master and Margarita" by Mikhail Bulgakov. I think interpreting the vision, the satire and the paranormal would be right up his  alley and absolutely incredible!

Seeing Red

I first fell in love with the color red this summer when my sister gifted me with her beautiful red blazer. I secretly coveted it, and I guess she noticed my beggar smile, and was kind enough to present me with it. Apparently she snagged it at BTM a textile factory. In any case I absolutely love it. With gold bracelets and accessories it has a little bit of a 90's dynasty feel to it mixed with a Spanish touch. The truth is I already wore it out before she donated, but I did rush to dry cleaners the next day. Moral of the story: Be careful of little sisters in your closets. Later I found this dress also the same bright red color, and had to have.

Now it was officially my new favorite color of the season.

Red is such a dynamic color which can sometimes be overpowering. A lady in red can dominate a whole room. Thus should be worn carefully and wisely. Remember the spunk of Scarlet in Gone With the Wind? No? Well those that do, would know that she wore the red dress to Miss Melly's house on purpose. The look of defiance on her face, priceless.

Fashion Is A Rhetorical Phenomenon

After studying much of Rhetorical Theory, the philosophy and its history, I have come to this conclusion that Fashion IS a Rhetorical Phenomenon. Actually that will be the topic of my final paper where I will discuss the reasons why. Let me quickly break it down for you though if you already don't find this as fascinating as I do. You see rhetorics is a tool of persuasion, an identification with symbols and signs. Actually the 5 canons of rhetoric is: Invention, Arrangement, Style, Delivery and Memory. What else then speaks louder than your outfit? The person that walks out of the house when you decide to put on an outfit is often a clear and a loud rhetorical statement. Some louder than others. Whether its a low maintenance hush, a punk yell, business sophisticated, girly flirt, or just plain crazy, you're speaking out to the world through your clothes. People either identify with you or not. Thus fashion is then most definitely a rhetorical statement.

So I just got back from my trip to New York, and I gotta tell ya, my escape there in the near future is inevitable. Every time I visit I fall more in love with the spirit, the energy, the mix of cultures and of course ze fashion. Which is so easy and nonchalant.

Me and my friend did quite a lot of exploring and did some shopping. New York is home to one of the best boutiques and variety in the world located on 5th, Soho, and even the outskirts if you're the sneaky kind. Top shop is one of my favorites, with so much cute merch, I resembled something of Mr. Scrooge jumping into his pile of gold coins going for a swim. Here's some of my picks that I chose:

My favorite part in NY though must have been the after hours pizza next to 1 Oak. After the club, you're hungry, you're vision's blurry and the site of a pizza shop is a lot like a mirage in the desert after a gruesome sweaty hike in the hot sands of Sahara. But this was like no other pizza shop. It had a red rope and a bouncer outside of it. And instead of questioning this preposterous sight I quickly adapted and got into the line like all the other comrades waiting for my slice. Someone behind me quietly hinted that the artichoke pizza is the best, while the guy in front, dressed in a slick suit and Fabio hair was getting just too antsy for his slice leading to an argument with the bouncer: "I Want my f**king pizza!! I've been waiting for half an hour" he screamed with crazy in his eyes and an European accent. "Sorry man you're just too drunk." "IT'S MY TURN, I WANT MY PIZZAAAA" continued Fabio, who was soon escorted away by the cops. I am serious. I felt so bad, it was a case of the soup Nazi, and I so wanted to help but the temptation of pizza was just too strong and it was like the survival of the fittest, one less to go...MWahahaha ;D
As soon as I got my Margarita (I opted for what I'm familiar with, the artichoke looked like a heart attack waiting to happen), I jumped into the cab with my friends, but my karma for standing silent while Fabio was getting carried away was the scorching hotness of the oven fresh pizza. Mixed with its goodness it lead to a severely burnt mouth. No joke. Owie was the next day at lunch. Looks like Fabio was the lucky one after all -_-

Here's some photos of the natural beauty in the September's issue. I love her care free yet glamorous style.

Most of all I love her jewelry (the mix of over sized bangles and watch) with the simplicity of her wedding ring. She probably learned from her ex bf Leo why Diamond's aren't a girl's best friend. And that it's not a rock that should show the size of real love. Purses and shoes on the other hand is a different story ;)

Her comment nevertheless that there should be a law for mother's having to breast feed their child for the first 6 months was kind of controversial and a little ignorant. I can imagine the outrage it caused at Victoria Beckham's house as she read that: "Bollocks."

In Georgia: Irakli Nasidze Fashion Show

That's me practicing my greeting wave. A girl's gotta know the proper motion, it's quite essential for day to day activities in la la land. Now was that too much elbow action or not enough? You have to be careful of looking too excited, plus it's all about the wrist you know. Shucks...I yet have to perfect it ;)

While in the city of Batumi I attended the outside showing of designer Irakli Nasidze. Created in a theatrical manner it started off with models appearing in the windows and balconies of the buildings situated in front of the outside runway. I used the photos of photographers who kindly shared them with me, because I couldn't use the camera during the show itself. Both me and the elderly lady who was covered in furs in mid August and a wide brim saucer hat thought it was quite preposterous! :)

This was the first time I've seen such an alternative set up and really enjoyed the spectacle. Here's some of the designs which I thought were interesting.

The outfits included a lot of mesh and layered pieces, as well as loose knit. I wouldn't say that I enjoyed the designs more than the show itself, nevertheless it was very well done.

In Georgia Contd.: Bicholla

So as I was saying... before I got interrupted by my friend's closet :) living in Georgia this year has introduced me to some of the countries most creative and illustrious designers. The young Bicholla Tetradze also a native to the country is one of the up and rising new designers with his recent Fall/Winter 2010/2011 line "Pillows." The head pillows look like little nuevo crowns and total royal fun!

I found it very unique and quirky as well as artistic in presentation. For some reason it reminds me of Luella, I guess because of its playfulness. Can't wait to see some of his future designs! Maybe blankets to go along? ;)

My Best Friends Closet

So I finally got to raid my friends amazing closet. I've been meaning to for a while but never got around to it. The trick is to bring cookies. In this case it was a wheat free spelt brownie that is only available across a long torterous bridge, somewhere in the boonies (that is if the bridge was cambie, and the boonies was the new Whole Foods on cambie). But hey, what are friends for right! :)

You don't want to be that person that people point at who's lugging 5 suitcases and then ends up crying in a pile of clothing in their hotel room cause they have nothing to wear. Oh that's just me? Allrighy then.

In Georgia: Batumi Angels

Despite the many difficulties which I had to overcome in my new city such as being woken up by a rooster at 6am who resides in the nearby household and then a cow at 9, I've fallen in love with Batumi. While planning the roosters demise I figured the contrast of living in a newly built building and having a rooster and some other random livestock as my neighbors quite interesting. No we didn't have each other over for tea time but we did grow quite fond of each other, I'd say. The point being is that everything is in progress and I was in the smack middle of what could be the future St. Tropez of the Black Sea. Things need time of course, and nevertheless the Batumi Miracle project is moving with tremendous speed. I was even more happy to witness that Georgia has also developed its style with some very unique designers. Recently I have done a little bit of research and atteneded numerous shows and openings and to my surprise things in the creative sector were heating up. One of the shows organized by Georgia's Fashion Week creator Maka Metreveli, was held in Batumi with designers Lako Bukia, Atelier Informal(Teo Gardapkhadze & Lela Eloshvili), and Anuka Keburia.

Bamba Rooms Batumi

All guests were given masquerade masks by Lako Bukia and decorative wings to add to the enchantment of the show. Of course I was in heaven :) I'm a sucker for dress up.

The "Batumi Angels" fashion show was held in Georgia's most exclusive club Bamba Rooms with an all white theme and a performance by modern dancers and theatre, as well as international DJ Nakadia.

The designs were modern and unique with tailored cuts and bold statements. 

I loved the minimalism od the outfits, especially the splashes of color by Atelier, as well as the lace wrap around the feet instead of shoes. Touché!

The evening came to an end with setting free of some wishes into the sky, of course I can't say mine or it won't come true ;)

KNEE HIGH REPORT

Thigh highs have to be are unfortunately packed away neatly for next fall, unless you live in Canada of course then weather is a guessing game just as much as what hairdo John Galliano will present himself in. You wait for a bob and you receive an updo. What can I tell ya, life is full of surprises. Personally I had $20 on a back comb tease.

Anyways I'm loving the cute trend of knee highs as well as anklets.
Perfect with flats or in open toe heels, you can dress 'em up or down.
Neon colors make them that much more funner for the summer. Oh ya.

Or give it a more classic look by more subtle colors.

And if you dont feel like parting with them for the rainy season,
wear them inside boots or even over stockings.

If all else fails look for inspiration with a blast from the past.
Think Clueless.

ROBERTO CAVALLI IN GEORGIA

Recently I had the pleasure of meeting Roberto Cavalli on his visit to Tbilisi and Batumi, Georgia where I'm currently residing and working. 

He presented the President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili with a beautiful blanket, who in return gave the designer a mythic character statue from the land of Colhis and modern day region of Georgia by the Black Sea where Medea and the Argonauts passed during their search for the Golden Fleece, and where I was born.

I also had the pleasure of riding around in bumper cars with him after dinner, from which I think I suffered a mild concussion :|

The designer has an amazing summer and fall line. I loved the integration of Grunge and Punk for the men! And for the ladies I'm even more so speechless. 
Something that I also noticed which I've never seen before was the E-life cigarettes which Cavalli and his entourage were using. What makes them so fashionable is that they're completely healthy, sans nicotine (or reduced doses if you're trying to quit). It's just something to play with basically. Virtual is becoming habitual ;) Plus they can come in different cool colors that light up like neon green and blue when you smoke them! OOoooo...aaaaa.

So recently I was asked to review a jewelry line LuShae Jewelry which includes beautiful and unique rings, pendants, bracelets, and earrings. I was planning to chose one item for myself, so as soon as I entered the site my eyes started scanning through for my likes and dislikes. There was a ton of beautiful pieces from which I'm posting my favorites. Some were not for my taste but preferences vary, and I think there's a huge variety for different age groups which is great. Plus I noticed the site is updated often with new additions all the time.

So in the end it was hard to make a choice but finally I settled on the Bow Tie ring. Yes maybe it was in the promise ring section...AND??? sorry sorry getting a little defencive here but really we all know that the best kept promises are the ones we make ourselves. We just don't care when we break 'em! ;) I was happy with my choice but still doubtful of what it would look like in reality so I was pleasantly surprised to see the ring which I ordered was just as pretty and perfect in detail and quality upon arrival.

My preciousss...

Most of the rings are white or gold 14k bonded, with Cubic Zirconia. Which should make u feel good, especially if u ever watched Blood Diamond or heard the horrible stories from Sierra Leone. Of course it's hard to say no. Plus we all know that a girl's true best friend isn't diamonds but are actually her real friends + mascara, and a killer pair of shoes! ;))

Currently LuShae Jewelry is having a special so you might find yourself a little gift or something in time for mother's day. Furthermore the staff were super friendly and the delivery was prompt. I only had to wait a couple days, and for an impatient freak like myself it is a big plus. I want it and I want it NOW! That's something I have to work on. It's a promise. ;)

CHANEL SPRING 2010

The corpse of Karl Lagerfield brings us yet another spectacular show for Chanel's Spring 2010 - "Country Chic" sans the pigs and manure. Chanel is my favorite brand in classic haute couture. That's for the record.

Always containing very feminine pieces, this season Chanel had an even girlier collection, with outfits reminescent of olden 19th century country styles, age of innocence dutch milk maids and lil bo peeps. With clogs attached, the accessories and details included fake tattoos, floral embelishments, straw, lace, knitted wears and as per usual tweed.

The ad campaign has a spanish incline. Shot in Buenos Aires by Lagerfield himself, the ad features Claudia Schiffer, Baptiste Giabiconi (known as the boy version of Giselle and Lagerfield's current shadow) and Freja Beha Erichson - ze new muse of Lagerfield,with her infamous script tattoos, which I'll get into later...;)

GYPSY PUNK REVOLT...OH LEGALIZE ME!

I've always loved Gogol Bordello and recently listening to his music I got inspired to post in honor of them and Gypsy Punk fashion. I love both, so Gypsies + Punk=SICK

Gypsy fashion has been attributed to the Bohemian look which was THE style a little while back when Sienna Miller was hot on the scene too, now its still cool, I just won't tackle the mannequin anymore, but its still cool.

Stepping into the world of Zuhair Murad

It is one full of luxury, elegance, and ethnic touch. His Fall/Winter 2010 took my breath away. It was like watching a fashion show for the Olympic gods if they had haute couture.

Here's a peak of the mesmerizing show and some photos.

I love the Medusa style hair, maybe not as effective in the real world, it made a big impression.

Many of the dresses reminded me of his earlier Charleston-style pieces from 2006-07.

I found it stunning alongside with the models and the whole set up of the show. It was futuristic as well as ethnic, legendary as well as vintage and not to forget glamorous. All that combined is Zuhair Murad. Here's some more of his work including Spring/Summer.

With lots of military style additions, some of it reminded me of having Byzantine influence.

Zuhair Murad is a Lebanese fashion designer who first showcased his official couture show during Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week in 2001, offering him his worthy recognition.

That is the song that kept on playing in my room every morning while on my internship in Georgia. Actually I don't know what the song was called, or if those were even the correct lyrics but I dug it. The other cool thing was that it was on Fashion File which plays 24/7 there. So basically I was in a trance for a large portion of the time while in my room.

The designers which really caught my eye for Fall 2010 were Jeremy Scott, Zuhair Murad, and the men's collection by Cavalli among the few. Here's some looks from Jeremy Scott for Fall 2010.

The hair and make up reminds me of the Avengers/60's while the style is mixed with the 90's almost like a neo-mod. You can interpret it as you like ;)
